Dear Patrick Allies,
WELCOME (Bem Vindo) to Lisboa, PT. I am thrilled to see you bringing your choir to our city, linked to England for over 4 centuries. I don’t see your performance at St. George’s here and wondering if you’ve moved it. Please advise.
I am Director for Music at Catedral de Sao Paulo (Anglican Cathedral) in the Lapa District. If you would like to bring your people to see our bright location, just let me know and I”ll be at your service. The Lusitanian Church broke off from Rome just over 146 years ago, becoming part of the Anglican Communion shortly after. When there were enough clergy to elect their own Portuguese bishop, St. Paul’s Parish became the natural cathedral. It was originally built in 1600 as a Carmelite Monastery.
Bon voyage to you all. I’ve had the honor of two choir tours in my history as a choral scholar and LOVE the experience. I’m looking forward to hearing you here because Portugal stopped developing their use of both organ and choirs around 1800, even though the Portuguese LOVE to sing.
