Solomon
In March 2025, Imperial College Chamber Choir, with Somerville College Choir and the Oxford Baroque Players, will be performing George Frideric Handel’s Solomon: one performance in Oxford (15/03) and one in London (19/03). This oratorio is one of Handel’s greatest, and tells the story of King Solomon across its three acts, delving into his life as a husband, judge and king.
The opening act depicts Solomon and his wife as lovers upon the consecration of the Temple in Jerusalem. In the second, Solomon showcases his wisdom by resolving a dispute between two women who each claim a single baby as their own. The third act features the famous number ‘Arrival of the Queen of Sheba’ and celebrates the peaceful kingdom Solomon has built.
Featuring soloists from both choirs, as well as esteemed countertenor Francis Gush. Direction is provided by ICCC’s Patrick Allies, as well as François Cloete and William Dawes.
